B'days are strange days-
One year has slipped by
A little nearer to the end
You wait A whole year- why- not sure
for it to arrive
with anticipation, uncertainty
You expect to feel a certain way, a little different, a little special
Tho you know it's just another day-
You expect wishes and you don't
You feel happy and also embarrassed
You want others to remember
And yet you don't
You want to be treated special
And yet you don't
You sprout gossamer wings
Your wear an invisible tiara
You sail through the day -
With your feet not touching the ground
You look around
Wondering if they remember
You are happy if they do
Disappointed and glad if they don't
The day is almost over -
You're grateful, you're relieved
But is that a tinge of regret
In the nook of my heart
And now there's a whole year
to go until the next...
